This Privacy Policy describes how the DAMAGE app ("the app", "we") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy. The app is designed to keep your data under your control at all times.
1. Information We Collect
Expense data you enter. Amounts, notes, entry type (food or car), and timestamps you log manually are stored locally on your device using SQLite. If you choose to enable cloud sync, this data is also written to a Google Sheet in your own Google Drive account.
Display name. An optional name you set in Settings (defaults to your Google account name if you use cloud sync). Used to label entries in your sheet so you and a partner can tell whose entries are whose.
Google account information. If you enable cloud sync, the app uses Google Sign-In to obtain an access token. We access only the Google Sheet and Drive files the app itself creates — we do not read any other files in your Google Drive. We do not store your Google credentials; authentication is handled entirely by Google.
Notification content (optional — see Section 4). Only if you explicitly grant Notification Access.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics.
- We do not collect location data or contact lists.
- We do not operate any backend server. There is no DAMAGE account and no DAMAGE-operated cloud storage — your data goes only to your own Google Drive.
3. How We Use Your Information
All data collected is used solely to provide the app's core functionality:
- Storing and displaying your expense history
- Calculating totals and progress against your monthly budget
- Syncing your entries to and from your personal Google Sheet
- Enabling a partner to view and add to the same sheet
We do not sell, rent, share, or transmit your data to any third party for any purpose.
4. Notification Access
If you choose to grant Notification Access through Android's system settings (Settings → Notification Access → DAMAGE), the app can read incoming notifications from supported food delivery apps and automatically log recognised orders without you having to open the app.
How notification data is handled:
- Notification content is read locally on your device only.
- Only notifications from known food delivery apps are processed; all others are ignored immediately.
- The only information extracted is the order amount and the app name — sufficient to create an expense entry.
- Raw notification text is never stored, transmitted, or logged beyond the expense entry it generates.
- No notification data is sent to any server, including ours.
You can revoke Notification Access at any time in Android system settings. Revoking access has no effect on your existing logged expenses or any other app functionality.
5. Third-Party Services
Google Sheets API & Google Drive API. Used only when you choose to enable cloud sync. Data is written to and read from a Google Sheet in your own Google Drive. Google's privacy policy applies to their services: policies.google.com/privacy.
Google Sign-In. Used for authentication when enabling cloud sync. We request the minimum scopes required: Sheets read/write and Drive file access (limited to files the app creates). We do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, or any other Google service.
Google AdMob. The free version of the app displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data such as device identifiers and app usage information to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time via your device's settings (Settings → Google → Ads). Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy. Ads are permanently removed across the entire app upon any in-app DLC purchase.
Google Play Billing. In-app purchases (DLC tracker unlocks) are processed entirely by Google Play. We do not handle or store any payment information. Google's payments privacy policy applies.
6. Data Storage and Security
Local data is stored in a SQLite database in the app's private storage directory, accessible only to the app. Cloud data resides in your personal Google Drive account, subject to your own Google account security settings. We recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your Google account.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data persists on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data via Android Settings. If you use cloud sync, data also persists in your Google Sheet until you delete it from Google Drive directly. Uninstalling the app does not automatically delete your Google Sheet.
Expense entries deleted within the app are soft-deleted (marked with a deletion timestamp) and synced to your sheet as deleted, but the row is retained for consistency. You can permanently delete rows directly in Google Sheets at any time.
8. Children's Privacy
DAMAGE is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will update the app's Play Store listing description.
